The Lakes at Stillwater and Bluestone Physician Services are partnering to offer a complimentary six-week workshop series for dementia caregivers. The goal of the curriculum is to provide an increased understanding of the disease process of dementia and to identify and present resources available to caregivers.

Each session is standalone but participants are encouraged to attend all six sessions. The format will include time and activities for participants to share their experiences. Sessions will be one hour of workshop time following refreshments and social time.

This workshop describes the types of dementia.

WEEK 2   Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.

CARING FOR THE CAREGIVER

Family-led session on the importance of self-care.

WEEK 3   Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.

SERVICES & RESOURCES FOR DEMENTIA CARE

Goals of care and advance care planning, local resources, dealing with crisis, and specialists.

WEEK 4   Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.

DEMENTIA TREATMENT: MEDICATIONS & NON-PHARMACOLOGICAL

Common medications for early dementia, managing behaviors with medication and non-medication treatments, dementia and depression.

WEEK 5   Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.

FINANCIAL, LEGAL & INSURANCE PLANNING FOR CAREGIVERS

Power of Attorney and Healthcare Power of Attorney. Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and Hospice.
